Cheers is an app that makes it easier to find common interests when meeting someone new. When the app starts, it accesses the users facebook profile and downloads information in the following categories: movies, books, games, television, music, sports and the birth month and day. The birthday information is only used to determine the users astrological sign. A user simply bumps his or her phone with the other persons phone running the same app. Using Bump technology, the profile information is exchanged . Note that birthday information is not explicitly exchanged; only the astrological sign information is exchanged. The app will then compare profile information and determine common points of interest which are scored by category.
